Challenge:

After spending two years quietly developing its MVP software solution, IndigoTech emerged from stealth mode with the goal of becoming the world’s top fitness and health SaaS management platform. With a seasoned leadership team and a functional product featuring a suite of services currently unmatched by its competitors, Indigo’s platform was engineered to disrupt the market rapidly and displace legacy solutions across the industry.

While Indigo’s business plan and platform capabilities were solid, the underlying infrastructure and technical debt began to show signs of stress just as they pivoted to scale. With fragile infrastructure and complicated custom deployment scripts, IndigoTech was unable to provision new customers swiftly, resulting in challenges to customer confidence right as they were poised to capture business. Buried under an endless supply of bug fixes and feature requests, the DevOps team could not modernize its code pipelines while keeping the platform online. Indigo’s leadership recognized the need to quickly address platform failures and control costs during a key pre-revenue phase of their business.

Response:

Based on a strong recommendation from Indigo’s AWS representative, Deep Blue engaged the Indigo team for a rapid three-week DevOps and AWS architecture assessment. Our architects quickly uncovered a network of circular dependencies, non-standard custom CI/CD solutions, and complicated serverless approaches, which created ongoing technical debt across Indigo’s platform. After reviewing the findings, Deep Blue assembled a full team of DevOps engineers and architects to completely refactor Indigo’s AWS architecture, focusing on implementing a modular CDK-based platform delivery model that adhered to industry-standard best practices and the AWS well-architected framework. By partnering closely with Indigo’s DevOps engineering team, Deep Blue delivered a comprehensive platform architecture capable of rapid scaling while reducing deployment time by nearly 94%.

Outcome:

Shortly after onboarding their first major clients, IndigoTech began courting potential partnerships. Due to our deep understanding of the IndigoTech platform, Deep Blue architects played a key role during architectural and technical due diligence reviews of the IndigoTech platform. By highlighting the rebuilt delivery pipelines, platform scalability, and rapid deployment capability, Deep Blue was able to instill technical confidence in the overall platform architecture.

Shortly thereafter, IndigoTech was purchased by one of its largest competitors in a private acquisition. Deep Blue successfully completed all delivery, documented as-built solutions, and performed a comprehensive knowledge transfer and handoff to the new ownership group’s technical leaders, leaving the company with a solid Native-AWS-based DevOps architecture that can scale into the future.
