Every minute an airplane spends on the ground waiting for a critical component equals a minute of lost revenue. For Unical Aviation, the leading global provider of aircraft parts, components, and parts-based solutions, speed of fulfillment is a crucial competitive advantage.  With an inventory of over 95 million aviation and aerospace parts that must be available at a moment’s notice, Unical must balance security and availability, both for the products it offers and the systems it uses for order fulfillment.

After successfully migrating all systems to a 100% AWS-hosted environment in 2023, Unical’s legacy Identity Provider (IdP) solution began to show its limitations. To solve this problem, Unical called upon Deep Blue Cloud Computing to propose a modernized Identity solution that would meet Unical’s current and future access and security requirements.

“It was important for Deep Blue to understand the complexities of Unical’s business operations to design an effective identity solution that would be secure and ultimately transparent for end-users.”

Ben Tosado, Founder, Deep Blue Cloud Computing

After an extensive review of Unical’s existing Cisco Duo implementation, Deep Blue partnered with Okta to propose and implement a modern, cloud-ready IdP solution that balanced cost-effectiveness, security, and technical agility. Leveraging a Channel Partner Private Offer (CPPO) via the AWS Marketplace for a seamless transaction, Deep Blue implemented Okta’s Workforce Identity Cloud and rapidly onboarded Unical’s user base. Working with Unical’s business and IT leaders, Deep Blue tailored security policies to design a flexible and secure system with enforced multifactor authentication and support for Unical’s physical YubiKey token-based authentication.

“Deep Blue’s strong understanding of the Okta platform capabilities gave us confidence that the solution would meet our security and identity needs today while continuing to grow with us into the future.”

Jennifer Torlone, CIO, Unical Aviation

Building upon this initial success, Deep Blue won additional projects in 2024 to implement Okta’s Adaptive MFA with Behavior detection and Advanced Server Access solution, creating a comprehensive defense-in-depth strategy for user identity, authentication, and access. This robust strategy ensures that Unical’s high-value assets and executive users are protected by additional layers of intelligent risk response technologies, maintaining a high vigilance to defend against persistent threat actors.
